How to Best Enjoy Your Wooden Wick Candle

How to Best Enjoy Your Wooden Wick Candle

With the introduction of the wooden wick to our collection, I thought I would share  a few tips on how to best enjoy your wooden wick candle.

With a cotton wick, we recommend you trim your cotton wicked candles to 1/4” before each burn. Trimming your wooden wick before each use is also highly recommended.

With a wooden wick, shorter is better. A wooden wick should be trimmed before each use to about 1/8” to 3/16”.   You must trim the wick before each use otherwise it will not be able to pull the wax up the wick and the flame will diminish and even possibly extinguish.

A wick trimmer works best for this but large nail clippers would work in a pinch, or gently breaking off the tip with your fingers and a kleenex. Make sure you remove all debris before lighting your candle.

When lighting your candle for the first time, please allow your candle enough time to melt the wax all the way to the edge of the jar - creating what we call a "burn memory". This burn memory is important so that your candle does not tunnel.

To light your candle, simply light the corner of the wick and the flame will travel across your wick.

Your wax may become slightly discoloured from the ash created by the burning wick.  Never trim your wick when the wax is in its liquid state and try to ensure you remove all bits of the wick after trimming.

A wooden wick may require a bit extra care and effort but the results are totally worth the effort. Please remember to continue to use all candle care and safety tips to ensure a long, enjoyable experience with your candle.
